Wrap up!
Six Week Stone Carving Workshop - S13
In this six-week hands-on class, you will learn some of the basics of stone carving to create a sculpture or surface design from a limestone block!
On the first day, we'll start with the basics of stone carving then on day two, we'll build a maquette out of clay to guide your design. The next 4 weeks will be working to bring your vision to life!

Alex will also talk about the history of stonemasonry, and what it's like being a stone mason both as an artist and a tradesperson.

This workshop will be a lot of fun but also involves light work with a chisel!

This workshop is open to everyone from beginners to those with stone craft experience who want to expand on their skills. All materials and tools are provided.
Practice hours outside of instructional time, similar to our ceramics classes, are included!

Calendar note: As Alex is the only person in Western Canada capable of teaching this class, we have the contingency plan of extending the class to April 15th in case of illness.

Alexander Boyd is a Cathedral trained stonemason from the UK with over 16 years of experience in carving and conservation. Specializing in heritage restoration, he has worked on buildings such as Parliament Hill (Ottawa), Historic City Hall (Calgary) and Province House (PEI), just to name a few.

When he's not carving or drawing, Alex enjoys building and sculpting bike trails out in nature, Documenting the process and building a community around the creations.
