Intro to Quilting - Make a Mini Quilt Workshop
Embark on a creative journey in our Sunroom Mezzanine with our Make a Mini Quilt workshop. Guided by Lindsay Sutton of Henrietta Quilt Shop, this unique class harmonizes the art of hand appliqué, the therapeutic nature of slow stitching, and the principles of colour theory. Together they converge to shape a captivating mini quilt top.

Delve into needle turn appliqué, mastering techniques like turning under seam allowances and precision cutting. Lindsay will guide you through the nuances of colour combinations and spatial arrangements, enhancing your skills in creating visually engaging projects. Experiment with appliqué piece placement, and design movement, and achieve balance while enjoying the meditative aspects of slow stitching.

Upon completion, you'll have a 19” x 21” mini quilt top. Finish it by quilting two layers with padding at home, indulging in the calming nature of slow stitching. Learn to add the final binding through a provided video link, framing your quilt for a polished, professional finish. Your mini quilt becomes both a work of art and a functional craft, showcasing your newfound skills and artistic vision.

Please bring some concepts or inspirational materials that you'd like to bring to life in your quilt!

Accessibility note: due to space requirements, this workshop is held in a studio only accessible by stairs.

Instructor

Lindsay's mom was a textile major and she taught her how to sew. This skill, along with Lindsay's love of drawing has led her to explore the intersection of art, craft and design as a lifelong practice. In 2015, Lindsay became a proud mother to her daughter, Henrietta. Two years later, Linday's life took an unexpected turn when she received a breast cancer diagnosis.

As the anxiety and stress grew, she turned to art as therapy - reconnecting with textiles and finding peace in the practice of quilting and weaving. Since then, she has found happiness exploring the profound connection between creativity and healing. She's inspired by the concept of the heirloom; objects that tie generations together, cherished keepsakes and the value and memories they share.
